Implementation of the Guiding Principles for Fundraising
The final feasibility report on the Regulation of Fundraising by Charities published in May 2008 set out a scheme to develop Codes of Good Practice on the operational and administrative aspects of fundraising by charities and also made recommendations on bringing this scheme into operation. This included the setting up of an Implementation Group made up of representatives of the charities sector and the relevant statutory agencies with an independent input to represent donors. Learn about the research that led to the feasibility report.
At the invitation of the Department of Community Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, ICTR was asked to bring the proposed scheme into operation. The Implementation Group members have developed a set of web based resources (toolkits, templates etc.) intended to be of practical help to organisations implementing the statement (which is part of meeting the requirements of the Charities Act 2009 in relation to fundraising).
These resources were presented at a seminar in Dublin on January 26th and were formally launched at a seminar in Cork on March 26th 2010. ICTR presented a series of free online educational seminars for the charity sector throughout 2010 that aimed to highlight the contents of the Statement of Guiding Principles for Fundraising.
(If you would like to join future webinars and are not on our mailing list, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.)
In March 2011 ICTR launched the Good Practice Factsheets (cash handling, data protection, Garda permits etc.) which were developed by the Implementation group to enhance the resources available to assist charites in implementing the Guiding Principles for Fundraising.
This is an initiative funded by the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.
